My Hermès Thrift Find

Ladies and Gentleman I present to you my prized thrift find: The Grand Apparat Hermès scarf!
As I was browsing through the scarf rack at Salvation Army this beauty caught my eye so I picked it up and then saw Hermès - Paris printed on it. I immediately started to tremble and thought to myself "No way!" The price? $1.99. Apparently people in my po-dunk county have no idea who the heck Hermès is. I chuckled as I was ringing up and saw a clutch in the glass case from Banana Republic with $9 marked on it. How funny is that? Not that I'm complaining about paying $1.99 for Hermès!

I wasn't 100% convinced that it wasn't a replica so I did some research on how to tell if it's real and everything checked out from the rolled hand-stitched seams to the proper markings and artist signature.
It turns out this beauty was made in 1962 and the artist is Jacques Eudel. Vintage score!

So I'm pretty proud of this find. I got a few other things too but not as exciting as this!

What's your most prized thrift find?

  36. WOW Kassi! OMG I cannot believe an Hermes scarf ended up at the salvation army! i took a look and immediately knew this was the real deal, the colours are still so vibrant after 40+ years. It's amazing, take care of it and it'll last you for years to come. Do dry clean it because once you wash silk it's the end of it. the colours fade and it's wrinkly. enjoy :)

  37. This one is a score!!! I actually saw a Hermes scarf once as well, however that one had a really bad stain on it, so I passed it up :/... but WOW! congrats on this vintage beauty! :)
    Good luck!

  40. Beautiful scarf! I live outside ATL where we have access to a TON of designer stores, etc. so I frequently find Elie Tahari, Armani, etc. at Goodwill. However, my most recent "bargain" is a black label Ralph Lauren tan/black houndstooth pant suit. The blazer is a classic fitted, single-breasted, double-button style and the pants are classic flat front! I'm 2 sizes larger on top than bottom and this suit was the exact size for me! Even the length of both the jacket and pants were perfect---like it had been tailored to me! I paid $9.50 for it and $9 to have it dry-cleaned= total cost $18.50 for a suit that was probably around $1000. It looks brand new, like it was never worn!
