What I'm Wearing: A Colorful Bouquet

Back to work...and no short week this week. Bummer city. I decided to combat my blues with a bright ensemble. I busted out one of my favorite summer maxi dresses and decided to make it work for today's 40 degree weather. It was easy enough - all I did was throw a goldenrod sweater on top, added a scarf and some boots (so my tootsies didn't freeze) and voila! A fun, colorful winter outfit.

I had to run into the grocery store after work to get a few things and three different men, all different ages mind you told me they liked my "skirt." I put skirt in quotations because A. this isn't really a skirt (I wasn't about to explain that to them) B. I am never really sure it's my clothes they like or if they are hitting on me - most likely the latter. Oh well, a compliment is a compliment and I'll take it.

What I'm Wearing: Plum Crazy

Hello everyone! Having a great weekend? I hope so. Mine has been fun from watching my cousin (and bride to be) model in a bridal show to trying on potential bridesmaids dresses with my crazy (but awesome) cousins. The bride is letting us choose our own bridesmaid dress so long as it is knee length and gray. I believe I found mine yesterday - think strapless, belted and pockets. Super cute.  We also got to see the bride-to-be try on her dress which made me tear up. I think I may have to stick some tissues in my bridesmaid dress pockets.

Anyway, I finally busted out my adorable bow-adorned skirt that I got for Christmas. The color reminds me of my first car - a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird in purple. You know you're jealous. That car was a beast. I paired the skirt with a plain black top so the purple bow would stand out more. Accessorized with simple sparkles, patterned tights and heels with bows.

What I'm Wearing: Striped Capers

I have to say that Michigan weather shocked me again today. I had way too many clothes on for the 50 degree weather. Oh well. For once in my life I feel short on words, so I will just talk about what I'm wearing.

Let's start with the cape. Do you all love a good cape? This is my favorite that I own and it has a lot to do with the rich orange color. I also love the different silhouette that capes can give an outfit - an added level of dimension. I paired the cape with a basic striped long sleeve t-shirt, jeggings, riding boots and a fabulous statement necklace. I will have to get a close up of the necklace sometime because it is far more eye-catching in person than in the photo.

What I'm Wearing: Shades of Brown

Howdy everyone! Today was one of those days where I rolled out of bed with a complete lack of inspiration. I saw the top I have on in the closet and decided it was high time I wore it. I thrifted this pleated front beauty from the Goodwill a month or more ago. The sleeves are enormously fluffy, so I feel a big like I have saggy army in it, but over all it's cute. It needed some structure and that is why I tied a faux leather belt around it to create a waist.

Then I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with it, so I ended up just pulling a brown pair of dress pants from my closet and throwing on some heeled loafers. As I was ready to leave, (and already running behind) I noticed that my butt looked atrocious in these pants because they were way too loose in the caboose. I got home from work and even my husband said "Your pants are too big." I found out why when I looked at the tag. They are two sizes bigger than what I wear in the same brand now. Time for these to go to consignment.

What I'm Wearing: Mix & Mingle

Happy Hump Day!  How are you all holding up so far this week? I am doing pretty well myself.
My football team won it's game last night - Go Blue! So naturally I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning. So happy in fact, that I went to bed dreaming up a fun outfit to wear today. I love it when I lay down at night and come up with an awesome outfit idea. I should start writing them down though, because sometimes when I wake up I can't remember what my brilliant idea was. Doh!

I did remember this outfit however, but changed up a few elements based on things that made me say "Oooh, this instead!" One of those things were these adorable thick polka dot tights my parents bought me for Christmas. I love all things polka dot, and these tights are super stylish and cozy. I paired the polka dots with a bright orange pleated skirt, simple long sleeve top, leather blazer and funky color blocked wedges. I absolutely love this outfit, it made me giddy.

Steal Her Style: Rachel Bilson

Hello Lovelies! I have decided to begin a new series focusing on how to get celebrity (and other fashionista's) looks for less. If you're anything like me, you scan the pages of fashion magazines, half-drooling over what the celebrities and models are wearing while cringing at the price tags. We may not be able to purchase the labels celebrities do, but we can wear similar pieces that look just as fabulous for a fraction of the cost.

I am a huge fan of Rachel Bilson's style and have rarely seen her in anything I don't like. In the photo above, she takes a fashion risk by  mixing floral and leopard prints. Mixing prints can be tricky, but I think she does it to perfection here by just having the pop of leopard in her shoes.  Her look is from the Erdem 2012 Resort Label. I do not know the exact price of her pieces, but based on the cost of other items in the Erdem line, I would say this outfit retails for north of $2,000.

I have put together two looks inspired by Miss Bilson's outfit: An outfit comprised of pieces I already had in my closet and a look that you can purchase for a fraction of the cost of Rachel's.

I did not have a floral button down top, so I had to settle for a floral camisole with a black cardigan over it I then paired them with red pants, leopard wedges and a simple croc-embossed clutch.
It's not identical to Rachel's, but it has the same effect.

Cardigan and Clutch: Forever 21
Red Pants: Express
Camisole: K-Mart
Leopard Wedges: Jessica Simpson via TJ Maxx

You can get a similar look to Rachel's for just $103!
That is likely 5% of what her Erdem Resort outfit cost!

What I'm Wearing: Happy 2012!

Hello lovelies and welcome to a New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday with friends and loved ones. I ushered in the new year at a wedding - talk about new beginnings.  This is not what I wore to the wedding, I actually didn't get a full photo of that, I was too busy with other things I guess - like whooping grandmas at air hockey and yelling "boo-ya!" and "In your face!" That didn't really happen, so you can stop shaking your head now.

For today's outfit I wore a fur shrug that I bought before Christmas on clearance at Macy's. It is super soft and it reminds me a bit of  old Hollywood glamor, which I love. I wore it over a lace long sleeve shirt, paired with a pencil skirt and tights. I capped off the glam with a statement necklace and embellished shoes.  I wanted to start the new year with a bang. How did I do?
